The renewable energy park (REP) will be built on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia. A REP is a facility that produces clean fuels using proven, mature technologies. This REP will produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable methanol.
SAF is produced from renewable materials. It is used to power aircraft and can match the performance of conventional jet fuel (derived from fossil fuels) while significantly reducing carbon emissions. Our SAF will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 90 per cent compared to conventional jet fuel. It will be used as a “drop in” fuel, meaning it can drop straight into existing fuel infrastructure on aircraft. Renewable methanol will be used to power ships and create other products.
The REP will be powered with renewable electricity generated from both solar and wind farms. This self-produced power will be used along with sustainable biomass and water to produce SAF and renewable methanol.
The location shown on the map is an estimate based on:
- public statements saying that 45,000 acres of mostly private land has been proposed for the project
- looking at provincial crown land maps that show there is a portion of non-crown lands that fit the proposed size
- rough location provided by project overview map produced by the proponent
